We are experienced forensic accountants working with attorneys, mediators and judges. Our experience allows us often to anticipate the needs of the attorney in a case. We can either work representing one attorney or party’s interest, or as a neutral, such as a joint accountant for two attorneys, or in a mediation or collaborative law setting. As our divorce checklist on this web site indicates, we are pro attorney, and we do not advise or represent clients who try to do things themselves (Pro Per).

We can work on an hourly consultation basis with an attorney on just specific parts of a case. We set up a client number for the attorneys who periodically call us throughout the year for telephone consultation of specific matters of the case they are currently working on, such as tax questions, financial issues or how he or she might proceed in the case. Typically, these are short engagements and we bill our hourly services directly to the attorney.

Many other cases are more complex and we are brought in at the very beginning of the case (which we recommend) to help in discovery, such as document requests, deposition questions and drafting interrogatories for the other spouse. This engagement may evolve into a business valuation or determination of income available for support or other forensic accounting work. In these cases, we require a signed engagement letter with the attorney with the fee responsibility being that of the client. Typically, we require a refundable retainer based on the work involved.

Periodically, we create and send out a newsletter- called the Forensic CPA - to the attorneys we have a working relationship with to keep them abreast of tax and financial issues that are changing in the family law area. You can read past issues by clicking on an issue below:
